Big news out of overwatch HQ today as its confirmed by game director Jeff Kaplan that Overwatch will get a server browser in the next realm of updates. The browser itself will list all the custom games running within each rejoin at any one time, with “all sorts of sorting and filtering options to help you find exactly what kind of game you’re looking for,” and also gives players the ability to run their own unique public or private game servers.
The Browser hits overwatch 9 months after release and lines it up against most other shooters. “The majority of our players like to play the game through Quick Play and Competitive. And then a lot of our players engage with the Arcade as well, and the different modes that are running in the Arcade,” Kaplan states in the video. “But there are a lot of times where players want to try different things, and play the game in different ways, and it’s not really viable for us to put up a matchmaking system where we can feed everybody into everybody’s different possible custom games.”
Kaplan first mentioned the browser back last summer, in the video he claims it to be a “really cool feature”. he also states that for some gamers of a certain age the missing browser is still quite a head spinner. The test server is on the PTS currently and will be rolled out in the not to distant future.
Overwatch is available for Xbox one, PS4 and PC
