Steam Direct gets a Greenlight

Steam owners Valve are changing the way independent game makers get there content on to the service.

The current system “Greenlight” is to be replaced with a new system call Steam Direct

The Greenlight system allows Steam users to pledge there support for games that Valve the helps appear on its service.

Steam Direct will let developers get there games on to Steam without having to win over the users to a particular title.

Valve have yet to disclose how much the service will cost and after consulting game developers it could be anything from $100 to $5000.

“We want to make sure Steam is a welcoming environment for all developers who are serious about treating customers fairly and making quality gaming experiences,” said Valve.

This could either allow games that get missed to be a hit or steam to become a cesspool of badly made titles. Only time will tell.
