EA make money! That message was loud and clear when cavemen discussed making fire. For the whole dawn of video games history EA have been a money spinning machine and stepping forward through the ages Micro Transactions have become a main stay in all their games and Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be no different!. That’s correct folks, those pesky play to win bundles of coins or crates will exist in the new Star Wars shooter and this writer is pissed about it.
Battlefront 2 designer Niklas Fegraeus has confirmed that although the DLC will be free and the game will ship with a price tag you will be able to purchase in game currency. You will be able to progress and unlock content earned in game but “if you want to accelerate that, if you can’t play for a week, you can purchase that,”.
Oh and also “The important thing is everything can be earned [through gameplay]. If you’re someone who spends time on the game, we love you, do your thing, do what you want to do. If you don’t have the time, you can spend money and we love you as well. It’s your choice,”
Of course you love us Niklas, we are the hard working public shelling out £40 plus for your half finished, we will release fixes and DLC later on with a 8 gb download on release day games to then find you can go full boss mode if you pay after an hour of shelf life. But hang on I may of jumped the gun a little quick here, he then went on to add “No, it’s not about buying the winning item,” he explained. “No one can say, ‘I’m going to spend my zillion dollars and then I’m going to dominate.’ That’s not how it works.”
So if thats not how it works why are there micro transactions? Surely it should be if you play you are better than the gamer that doesn’t?
Am I wrong for thinking you only get out what you put in and not play for half a day and buy your way to the top? This just doesn’t sit right and that my friends is the problem with gaming today. I don’t care how good your game looks or how well it plays I will not be buying another money pit and sit firmly frustrated by over powered players who bought there way to the top!
