Legendary Pokémon have been hotly anticipated for some time in Pokémon GO, and finally they’re on their way. Niantic have announced that the long-awaited release of legendary pokémon in Pokémon Go are coming soon. The studio provided some details on how the feature will play out in-game. Players will have to work together to defeat the rare pocket monsters using the game’s new cooperative raids feature, which was introduced last month.
“Once in the wild, trainers can search for unique legendary eggs at gym locations around the world,” the company explains. “Players can team up with friends and other trainers to join legendary raid battle to defeat the legendary pokémon and earn a chance to catch it.”
It’s also worth noting that all this time there’s been a hunt for Legendary Pokémon since the release of the game last year. Players who have progressed to level 5 and interacted with a gym find themselves invited to one of three teams – Team Instinct, Team Mystic, or Team Valor – which are shown to be tied to Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres respectively. Could participating in teams play a part in how you unlock these particular Pokémon? It could still be the case that those Legendary Birds are tied to special Team-specific Raids at some point down the line.
The event will start very soon; the first legendary pokémon raid will take place during Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago on July 22nd. If players in Chicago manage to defeat the monster, legendary raid battles will then start rolling out globally on the 23rd.
