Microsoft discontinues original Xbox One

Microsoft has officially stopped selling new Xbox One consoles in the US and UK. Technically, they are shown as “sold out” on the Microsoft Store.

It seems the original version of the console that launched in November 2013 has finally been retired.

The original Xbox One, that looked a hell of a lot like a VHS player, first launched nearly four years ago. The poor reveal from Microsoft on the Xbox One; requiring an always online connection among other things, led to Sony taking an early lead in the console wars.

Microsoft closed the price gap by removing the failing Kinect sensor, six months after originally launching the console.

This move clearly paves the way for the slimmer Xbox One S and the newly announced 4K capable Xbox One X which is due out late this year.
