Minecraft has launched for numerous platforms, however it has never made it to any Nintendo Handheld console. That changes today, unfortunately not everyone with a 3DS will be able to play it.

Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition, is titled that way specifically because it doesn’t work on all platforms in the 3DS family. It’s restricted to use on the New 3DS and New 2DS systems, both feature more powerful hardware than the standard 3DS and 2DS systems.

The New 3DS version of the game features two modes – Survival and Creative, as well as two control schemes: standard buttons and touch controls. In addition, it includes special texture packs, which will more than likely be the Nintendo-themed ones we’ve seen on Wii U and Switch.

The game was announced during Nintendo Direct. You won’t have to wait long to grab the game either; The Eshop release for the game should be releasing today. If you’d prefer a physical copy, however, that is coming, but not until some point in the future.

Let us know in the comments below if you will be picking up the New 3DS version of Minecraft.
