Despite having limited supply, the Nintendo Switch has sold very well since its release back in March. Just imagine how it would do if it was easy to find—which it is expected to be in 2018, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Nintendo is reportedly aiming to make up to 30 million units of the Switch in its next fiscal year, which begins April 2018. That’s a massive number for a gaming console. To put that into context, the PlayStation 4 has sold around 60 million units since going on sale in 2013.
If you haven’t hopped onto the Switch’s hype train (like myself) now might be a good time to buy a ticket. In addition to the release of Super Mario Odyssey, the Switch is also getting a healthy dose of third-party content before the year is up, including Doom, Rocket League, and L.A. Noire. I am definitely going to be buying myself one of those 30 million consoles.
If Nintendo can keep up the momentum for the Switch, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the company sell every single one of the 30 million units it is reported to make. That’s what happens when you offer games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey as your main titles.
